High School
Counselors

The Former School-Based Counselor Group was formed because being a former school-based counselor was, and still is, a huge part of our identity. The majority of our group has over 10 years of experience working in schools prior to becoming private college consultants. As we work with students and their families, we bring a unique perspective to our role. Our experience in the school setting has prepared us to work with diverse learners and students with a wide range of post-secondary goals. Many of us held school counseling licensure, which typically requires coursework in mental health counseling, equipping us to navigate emotions and sometimes tough topics that arise during the college search process. We understand how to navigate the college planning admissions process within the context of each high school’s unique curriculum and policies. We look forward to building partnerships to better support you and your students.

How We Can Help

1. College Presentations to PTSA/Parents or students
Are the parents in your community clamoring for additional informational college presentations? We’re happy to present or serve on panel discussions to help increase college access and transparency in your community. We can present on any number of general subjects regarding college or financial aid, including list building, activities, requesting rec letters, essay brainstorming, etc.
2. Application Workshops/Bootcamps
Do you host applications workshops or essay bootcamps in the summer or early fall? Feel free to reach out if you need more hands on deck.
3. Teacher/Counselor PD
Professional development often coincides with your busiest time: the beginning of the school year. Do your teachers need training on writing recs, Naviance, or another college-related topic? Let us help.
4. Free Up Your Time
Do you have students (or parents) who demand more time and attention in the college process than you have available? We can work with those families so you can devote your time to work with the students who really need your help, while ensuring those families who require more personal attention due to specific needs, e.g. LD, LGBTQ+, athletic recruiting, visual and performing arts emphases, etc., remain content.
5. Fundraisers/Auction
Does your parent group or PTSA conduct fundraisers to raise money for Project Graduation or another purpose? We can offer free college advising services as an auction item.
